It’s been well over 4 years since I last wrote an article about NASCAR… My last post was towards the end of the 2008 season and I was burned out and heading down to Key West for an extended vacation. Little did I know was that the beer in Key West was so darn tasty! I first want to apologize to all my loyal fans and supporters for abandoning you. I reckon I just got lost in life and although I’ve been following my favorite sport… I just haven’t had the spark to write about it.
The 2013 NASCAR Sprint Series has been one heckuv an interesting one so far.. There’s been lots of firsts… It’s the first time we’ve seen the Gen-6 car out on the track, first time we’ve ever seen a female driver win the Daytona 500 Pole. It’s the first time we’ve ever seen a female driver win the pole and then in the next consecutive 3 races get close to dead last.. It’s the first time I can remember seeing Dale Earnhardt sit at number 2 in points after 4 races, these firsts are all great and dandy but more importantly, it’s the first time I’ve ever seen Joey Logano grow a pair.
Pure anger and adrenaline must’ve been pumping through the veins of Joey Logano as he unstrapped his 140 lb body and skipped his way over to former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin’s car. Rumor has it that Joey couldn’t stop the tears from streaming down his face once Denny clipped the left quarter panel of his car which then wrecked him into the wall. You could see the tremble in his voice as he was being interviewed “We’ve got a freaking genius behind the wheel of the 11,” Logano said. “Probably the worst teammate I ever had, so I learned that now. He chose to run into the back of me. Whatever. I have a scorecard and I’m not putting up with that. What goes around come around.”
Being a competitive man myself, mainly in beer drinking… I can see where Logano was frustrated. It’s the way he went about it that I reckon twerks me a bit… First! Wait till Denny Hamlin is out of his car with his helmet off before you attempt to go say your peace. Take notes from Clint Boyer’s team last year in Atlanta for the AdvoCare 500 as they snuck up on Jeff Gordon AFTER (keyword AFTER) he removed his helmet. To make matters worst Joey Logano went on twitter with this statement “Hey @dennyhamlin great job protecting that genius brain of yours by keeping your helmet on”… Let’s be real Joey, you never had the intention to let him get out of the car… Denny Hamlin is one driver you don’t want to mess with… I have a few favorites in the field, and I reckon Denny is one of them.
All and all I’m pumped for the 2013 race season, I was glad we didn’t get rained out in Daytona this year, Bristol was full of action, and the Gen-6 cars seem to be an beautiful addition to NASCAR. I look forward to writing more articles and getting this puppy back in every NASCAR fan’s “bookmarked” websites!
